Balian Releases New EP “Mind Reader”

(Baliekbis.com), Balian, a rock band formed in 2009 in Denpasar, proudly announces the release of their latest EP titled “Mind Reader,” set to be released on July 12, 2024. After several years without releasing new music, Balian is ready to present a collection of songs rich in themes and deep emotions.

The “Mind Reader” EP touches on various themes such as the highs and lows of life, self-reflection, recovery from traumatic situations, insecurity, survival, healing, love, freedom, complexities in relationships, sorrow, loss, joy, and the balance between betrayal, truth, and honesty.

“We hope listeners can feel the sincerity we put into our music. We also hope the melodies, harmonies, rhythms, and poetry in our songs have a positive impact on their relationships with themselves, their loved ones, and the world around them,” said Edward Andrews, a member of Balian.

“Mind Reader” is inspired by their love for music and the joy they experience while composing songs and writing lyrics. “We haven’t released new music for several years and have songs that we believe are ready to be shared. Our main inspiration is our love for music and the enthusiasm we feel when creating songs and offering them to anyone willing to listen,” added Edward.

The EP was recorded at several locations, including Antida Music, Uma Pohon, KubuKu Studio Bali, and Posko Studio. This recording process at various places added unique colors and character to each song.

The “Mind Reader” EP will be released on July 12, 2024, and Balian will hold a launch party the following evening, July 13, at Orchard Bar and Restaurant. This event is expected to be a celebration of their new music with fans and the local music community.

Regarding the musical style, the EP combines elements from 90s grunge/rock. “Everyone will hear this sound in their own unique way. However, if we need to categorize this collection of songs into an existing style, it would be closest to 90s grunge/rock. We use electric instruments, turn up the amplifiers loud, and inject as much energy as possible into whatever ends up being bottled and sent out for anyone willing to listen,” explained Aaron Lawrie.

Balian consists of Edward Andrews (bass/vocals), Aaron Lawrie (guitar/vocals), and Gembul Rai (drums/percussion). The EP is produced by Deny Surya, who also contributed percussion, and features Dadang SH Pranoto on the song “Make It True.”

Balian was formed in 2009 after a conversation at a local Indie gig led to jamming sessions and successive creative sessions that eventually formed the band. Their music is influenced by rock heroes from the 60s to the present day, but with a spirit to keep moving forward.

“We have been in hibernation since 2020, only emerging sporadically for recording sessions. It feels amazing to finally have a group of songs we are happy with, marking some progression from previous material. Each song has something a little different to offer,” concluded Aaron Lawrie.
